Frequently Asked Questions HEADING_TITLE

Extensions and Fitting

Q. Is my hair suitable for extensions?

A. Your hair needs to be at least 4 inches long and layered. This is so the extension joins can be hidden and the extension hair can blend well with your own.

Q. Will the extensions damage my hair?

A. Prohair™ fibre extensions are completely undamaging to your hair. Human hair extensions will not damage your hair, so long as they are looked after and removed properly.

Q. Will the extensions look natural?

A. Yes, all extensions are matched to your natural hair colour and texture to ensure a natural look. They are also slightly layered after they are put in, to blend them in further with your natural hair. This avoids the unsightly line where your hair ends and the extensions continue.

Q. How do I take care of my extensions?

A. All aftercare products are given free with every full head appointment along with aftercare leaflet and one free top up/maintenance appointment within the first 4-6 weeks if you need it. Aftercare products are also available to buy here. You will need to regularly brush your hair, separate the extensions at the roots with your fingers and keep your hair clean.

Q. Am I able to wash my hair with extensions in?

A. Yes. Specially formulated Shampoo and Conditioner is given with your appointment, to use when washing your extensions, along with an aftercare leaflet.

Q. Can I colour my hair with extensions in?

A. Yes. Prohair™ fibre extensions do not accept colour, so it is fine to do a root re-touch when they are in. You are able to colour re-growth with human hair extensions in, but will need to avoid getting colour on the extension hair and the bonds.

Q. How are the extensions put in?

A. Prohair™ fibre extensions are put in by tiny braids which are then wrapped and heat sealed using ‘The Gun’ Professional heat clamp. This creates a seal which holds the extension hair in place. Human hair extensions are applied using small resin bonds. The extensions are all applied in neat uniform rows, leaving out the hair line, so that the bonds/seals cannot be seen.

Q. How much will the extensions cost me?

A. All prices are based on individual hair type. Therefore a free face to face consultation will be needed prior to any appointment to determine hair type, colour match and discuss your requirements. Guide prices can be found on the prices page.

Q. How long do the extensions last?

A. They can be worn for up to 3 months, after which time it is recommended they be removed to avoid dreading at the roots where they are growing out.

Synthetic Dreads and Dreadkits

Q. How many dreads do I need for a full head?

A. Generally 55-60 double ended dreads or 70-100 single enders will be enough for a full head of extensions on the average head of hair.

Q. How many packets of Jumbo braid do I need to buy?

A. For enough hair to make 60 double ended dreads or the equivalent single ended dreads you will need approx 8-10 packets for long and mid length dreads, and about 5-6 packets for half length dreads. Of course if you like making thicker dreads you may wish to buy a bit more hair.

Q. How are the dreads put in? Can I do it myself?

A. They are braided in small sections over the head. This can be done by yourself or by a friend. See our ‘how to’ guide for installing double ended dread extensions.

Q. How do I order a dreadkit or book an appointment?

A. Simply send us an email or call us. If we don’t answer straight away, please be patient as you will receive a response by the end of the next working day unless we are on holiday. Dreadkits can now be ordered via the shop.

Q. I want a colour you don’t have, can you get it?

A. Whilst we are starting up our range will be limited to what you see on the site, but in time we intend to bring in as many colours as possible, including our own unique range. If there is something you are after drop us an email and we will see what we can do.

Q. Can I wash my dreads?

A. Yes, when wearing them, simply use either a dry shampoo, or if you don’t mind waiting for them to dry, dilute a mild shampoo with water and dab the roots of your hair and rinse thoroughly. If you have taken them out and wish to wash them, then put them in a pillow case and seal. Wash on 30-40 degrees and then take out and dunk in cold water and hang to drip dry straight.

Q. Can they be tidied up/ maintained?

A. Yes simply twist and use a hairdryer to reseal or a steam gun if you have one, as the heat shrinks the hair back in place.
